Most departures leave from Roma Termini and arrive at Firenze Santa Maria Novella (Firenze SMN). These are the most convenient stations for visitors: Termini is central and well connected to Rome’s metro, while Santa Maria Novella is within walking distance of Florence’s historic center and Duomo.
Some services may leave from Roma Tiburtina, so check the departure station carefully. Likewise, avoid selecting Florence stations such as Firenze Campo di Marte unless they better suit your accommodation.
Journey time and ticket prices
A direct high-speed journey generally takes about 1 hour 25 minutes to 1 hour 40 minutes. Slower regional or Intercity combinations can take three to four hours and may require a transfer, so they are rarely worthwhile unless the fare is significantly lower.
Advance high-speed fares often begin around €15–€30, while flexible or last-minute tickets commonly cost €40–€60 or more. Prices vary by date, departure time, ticket conditions, and availability.
