Why the change helps

Clearer route for beginners.
Players move from lessons, into supported play, then into gentle duplicate and onward into fuller duplicate sessions.
Summer does not become a gap.
Wednesday morning supervised play keeps new players active after lessons finish in July and before Year 2 starts in September.
Prepared boards support learning.
Supervised play sessions use themed boards, with a short topic summary at the start, so the hands reinforce what players have been taught.
Friday becomes clearer.
Friday afternoon becomes the protected NGS 6 High duplicate, while Friday morning becomes a standard open duplicate session.

Friday board-sharing rules

Same boards.
Friday morning and Friday afternoon use the same boards.
One Friday session only.
Members may play in either the Friday morning session or the Friday afternoon session. They may not play in both.
Results delayed.
Friday morning results are not published on the website until after the Friday afternoon session has started.
Reason.
This keeps the afternoon session fair and protects the integrity of the shared-board arrangement.It also helps the duplimators.

Summer supervised play

Wednesday morning.
Runs 9.30am to 11.15am after the current lessons finish in July and continues through the summer.
Wednesday evening and Friday afternoon.
Wednesday 7pm supervised play is repeated on Friday at 2pm, giving players two chances to practise the same theme.
Who it is for.
Players who have completed Year 1 or Year 2, plus anyone who wants supported practice on lesson-based hands.

Wednesday morning.
Becomes Year 2 lessons from September.
Wednesday evening.
Continues as supervised play, with prepared boards and a short topic introduction.
Tuesday afternoon.
Gentle Duplicate continues with no proposed change.
Friday afternoon.
Becomes NGS 6 High Duplicate, giving improvers a protected duplicate route.

\n Message from the committee: The aim is to give newer players a clearer pathway, without asking them to make too big a jump too quickly. The summer sessions keep people playing, the supervised sessions give support and confidence, and the Friday changes create a more logical step from learning into duplicate bridge.\n
